Make No Peace with Evil
There is one thing in your life you are never allowed to negotiate with, and most men spend their whole lives trying to work out a deal with it anyway.
Evil.
Not a person. Evil. The darkness itself. Sin, temptation, the pull toward the exact thing that is killing you, and the one who stands behind all of it and wants you dead. That is the enemy. Not your coworker, not your ex, not the man who wronged you. Those are people, and we will get to how you treat people. This is about the other thing, the real enemy, the one with no face, and the rule for that one is simple and total.
No peace. No deal. No ceasefire.
Here is where men go wrong. We treat sin like a negotiation. We do not want to quit it, we want to manage it. We want a comfortable amount of it. A little porn, kept quiet. A temper we keep mostly in the truck. A bottle we swear we control. A grudge we feed at night. We are not at war with those things. We have signed a treaty with them. We gave the darkness a room in the house and told ourselves we would keep it contained to that room, and every man who has ever tried that has watched the darkness walk out of the room and take the rest of the floor.
You cannot contain evil. You cannot manage it. You cannot keep a little of it as a pet. It is not a habit, it is a fire, and a fire you have decided to keep small is still a fire, and it is patient, and it is waiting for the night you are tired.
Listen to how the Scriptures name your real enemy.
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."
Ephesians 6:12, NASB 1995
Read that slowly, because it changes the whole map. Your struggle is not against flesh and blood. It is not against people. The man you are angry at is not the enemy. He is flesh and blood, same as you, and the verse just told you plainly that he is not what you are fighting. What you are fighting has no face and no phone number. It is the darkness itself, and it has been working on you your whole life, and it does not want a deal. It wants you.
So stop trying to make one.
This is the difference that will straighten out half your life if you get it. You make war on evil and you make peace with people. Most men have it exactly backwards. They go to war with the people, the wife, the boss, the brother, the guy on the internet, and they make peace with the evil, the sin they are quietly keeping. They will fight a human being to the death over nothing and let the actual enemy sleep in their bed.
Turn it around. The person is not your war. The darkness is. And with the darkness there is no version of "let's both calm down." There is no meeting halfway with the thing that is trying to destroy your marriage, your kids, your walk, your mind. You do not calm down toward it. You put it to death.
That is not my dramatic language. That is the Bible's. Put to death. Make no provision for the flesh. Resist the devil. Abhor what is evil. Every one of those is a fighting word, and God chose fighting words on purpose, because He knows the temptation of every tired man is to sign a small peace with the thing that is killing him and call it maturity.
It is not maturity. It is surrender with better manners.
So here is the honest question. Where have you made peace with evil and called it something respectable? Where is the treaty? Every man has one. The quiet arrangement. The thing you have stopped fighting because fighting it was exhausting and losing it was easier and now you do not even call it sin anymore, you call it "just how I am."
That is the room the darkness lives in. And I am telling you it will not stay in that room.
You do not have to win the whole war today. You are not strong enough to, and neither am I, and that is the good news, because the war was never yours to win alone. Christ already broke the back of the thing you are afraid of. But you do have to stop signing treaties with it. You have to name the one arrangement you have been protecting and tell the truth about it: that it is not a quirk, it is the enemy, and you have been feeding it.
Tear up the treaty. Not "manage it better." End it. Bring it into the light, hand it to God, get a man who will fight beside you, and make no peace with the thing that has never once meant you anything but harm.
You can love every person who ever wronged you. You are commanded to. But the darkness gets nothing from you. Not a room. Not a corner. Not one more quiet night.
No peace with evil. Ever.
