When you don’t have the words, borrow mine. Read them out loud. Make them yours.
Lord, it’s me. Before this day starts swinging, I’m stopping here.
You know what I’m walking into. You know what I’m afraid of. Give me a steady hand and a clean mouth. Let me be the man my family needs when I walk back through that door tonight.
The battle begins on my knees. Even behind this wheel. Amen.
Father, I did it again. You watched me do it. I’m not going to pretend, and I’m not going to hide for three weeks first.
You were not ashamed of my worst day. So here I am on it. Forgive me. Get me up. Put my feet back on the wall.
I’m not done, because You’re not done with me. Amen.
Lord, they’re asleep and I’m still up. So this one’s the watch.
Guard my wife. Guard my kids. Guard this house from everything I can see coming and everything I can’t. Make me the kind of man worth waking up to.
I’ll stand this post as long as You give it to me. Amen.
Lord, it's me. I am out. I have got nothing left, and I am not going to pretend I do.
You know how long I have been at this. How many times I got back up. And I cannot find it in me to get up again tonight.
So I am not going to. I am going to lie here and let You be strong, because I am not, and I am done acting like I am.
You never asked me to carry this alone. I tried to anyway, and it broke me. Here is the broken. Take it.
I do not need to feel strong tonight. I just need to still be here in the morning, held by You. That is the whole prayer.
The battle begins on my knees, and tonight this is as far down as I can get. Meet me here. Amen.
God, I do not even know if I am doing this right. But I am looking for You, and I am worn out from looking everywhere else.
My life is a mess. I am not going to dress it up. That is exactly why I am here and not somewhere pretending.
I have heard that You take men like me. The ones who finally stop running and turn around. So I am turning around.
I am not asking to have it figured out first. I am asking You to find me, because I cannot find my own way to You.
Here I am. Whatever You want to do with a man like me, do it. I am done being lost.
The battle begins on my knees, and this is me getting on them for the first time. Find me here. Amen.
Father, I am standing here and I cannot fix this. You know that is the hardest thing in the world for a man.
Someone I love is slipping, and there is nothing these hands can do about it. So I am bringing You the one thing I have left, which is You.
I am asking for a miracle, plainly, because You still do them and I will not pretend I do not want one. Heal them. I am asking out loud.
But if the answer is not the one I am begging for, then hold them, and hold me, and do not let go of either of us.
I cannot carry this. I was never built to. So here it is, and here they are, in hands far stronger than mine.
The battle begins on my knees, even in this hallway, even now. Be near. Amen.
Lord, before my feet even hit the floor, this day is Yours. I'm giving it to You before I give it to everything else.
You know what's on the calendar and what's going to blindside me that isn't. I'm handing You both.
Go before me. Order the hours. Put me where I'm supposed to be and keep me from where I'm not.
Make me useful today. To my family, to somebody who's hurting, to You.
Whatever comes, we'll take it together. The battle begins on my knees, before the day even starts. Amen.
