The Read
Every man I know is guarding something. A family. A marriage that's held together with effort. Kids. A reputation. Sobriety he fought for a day at a time. And almost every man I know is guarding it the same way, with his own two hands, his own vigilance, his own plans, walking the walls alone at two in the morning. Here's the first thing a watchman has to learn, and it's the one that stings: you were never the security system. "Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman keeps awake in vain." That's not a verse about giving up the watch. You're still on the wall. It's a verse about what holds the wall up while you're on it. The watch that doesn't start on its knees is just a tired man pacing in the dark, burning himself down and calling it faithfulness. So this thing starts where the battle actually starts. Not with discipline. Not with a plan. On the ground, talking to the God who guards what you can't. Thirty days from now I want you standing your watch like a man who knows who's really holding the city. Day one, you get on your knees and report for duty. That's the whole assignment.

The Prayer
The barest prayer there is. It's enough. It has always been enough.
God, help me. I've been guarding all of it alone and I'm worn through. You hold the city. I'll stand the watch. Teach me the difference. Amen.
