Owners ask me "which AI should I use" like it's a religion. The honest answer is each model is better at a specific kind of job. You'll use two or three. Here's the practical split for someone running a small business in 2026.
Job-by-job picks
Strategy, long-form writing, brand-voice work, sustained reasoning across a long thread: Claude. It's currently the best at sounding like a particular voice when you brief it well, and at holding context across many turns without going off the rails.
Quick generation, image work, structured outputs, code snippets: ChatGPT. The breadth and ecosystem are unmatched. It ships features fast.
Anything that needs the live web in real time: Perplexity. Treat it as your research analyst. It cites every source, you can verify. The "tell me the current state of X" use case has shifted entirely to Perplexity.
Anything inside Google Workspace: Gemini. The integration is what matters more than the raw model. Gemini reads your Gmail and Drive natively. If your business runs on Google, this saves the most steps.
Cost reality
Most of these have $20-a-month plans. Pick two and pay for both. Trying to do serious work on the free tiers is false economy: you'll hit limits at the worst times. $40 a month is not a cost. It's the price of an effective workday.
